We couldn't even get 8 fit players available on the day, it is all rather embarrassing really. It's been a big learning curve for us this season and we have learned some valuable lessons. Of course it doesn't help when half your squad are going to Aintree for the National as part of a stag do but don't bother to tell club management until it's too late to get a legal postponement.
Pure coincidence that the opposition was Morley on the two occasions we have been unable to field a side. Having undeservedly(our opinion) lost 2-1 at their place earlier in the season we would have relished the opportunity to play them again. Maybe a pre-season friendly can be arranged.
Apologies to Morley and anyone who feels this was wrong. We are happy to play the fixture but the League have awarded points to Morley as per the rules and we have also been fined.
We knew about the fixture from the website but were not officially informed in writing because the fixtures were posted to us without sufficient postage paid meaning they had to be collected from the sorting office and the Post Office, bless, didn't bother to inform us for over a week that there was a letter waiting to be collected.
This is not cited as an excuse and I think the League would say that we should have informed them that we couldn't play on that date anyway within 28 days regardless of what fixture was affected.
We will be back next season with a stronger mix of youth and experience and armed with better off the field knowledge too.
