Why dont we just play on concreteThe pitch we played on tonight was like concrete and was 5 times worse than when its frozen. The thing about pitches being frozen is they have a bit of grass on and get softer and not just solid ground. So whats the point in all this fixture back log? Also if all the teams who play on wakey park (or any other council park) pay for using it surely some of the money should go back into making sure the pitches are a half decent standard.

........................100% AGREE mon cap....i...tan! The pitch we played on last night (fieldhead/thorpe) was fucking rock solid I wanted to take my shoes and socks off and play! (african style) you pay money for them to be playable, they get called off for frost an yet you play on something that resembles a fucking waste land!
What are the council fucking about at! is it too much to water them every now an then just to make sure there fit to play on?
..............Woke up this morning with the bed sheets stuck to my fucking legs!
Get it sorted!

..............iv seen them in Barnsley, driving what looks like a little fire engine while they water flower beds for barnsley in bloom, so why the fuck cant they do a few pitches every now and then when its as dry as gandy's flip flops!
............surely that doesnt cost nowt! A few watering cans will do the trick an hour before kick off, our groundsman uses a hosepipe every other week to make sure our surface doesnt cut your legs!
.....It makes a massive difference when its lush

to water one football field would take about 7000 litre of water and to keep up to it you would have to do this twice a week

..........were only talking about the ones that really really need it, surely 7000 ltrs is too much? you only need to water the dry and crispy bits? Otherwise someones guna break an ankle or two?
.................. A bit of common sense and eveyone will be happy? Why cany councils put something like this into thier budget? They must make thousands of pounds from local football teams every season, is it too much to ask that they give a little back?
.........what would they do without local teams?? Could sides find private pitches and share with other clubs?
....we are very privelidged to have such a nice ground - anyone else have thier own pitch that they could share with another club or is this a daft Qs?

It probably takes just as much time to go to each field and do the crispy bits (with all the setting up of the equipment and getting there etc) as it does to cover the field so its purely down to costs. At this time of the year the people that look after the fields are given other duties so i cant see watering our fields will be a priority. I agree some are rock hard and like you say sid at least in winter there is some grass and it does soften as you play.
I remember matthew from crofton snapping his ankle on a really hard pitch. Not nice at all

ive said this for a long time, we should play on frozen pitches because they break up as you play on them...whereas grounds have no give at all now

They put it down to H&S reasons.
Frozen pitches are slippery and therefore pose a risk of falling and getting hurt.
Hard dry pitches cause less risk of falling so the individual is supposed to be in control and reduces the risk of falling.
Totally stupid. Its H&S gone mad.
Plus they do not want you to play on frozen pitches as it will damage the grass and it will not grow. Where is the grass on the council pitches now. Gone and no games played on them.

I dont think we should play on rock hard frozen pitches but i think every game should either be at the refs discretion or both teams managers

That was mentioned at the meeting the other week when Simon O Connor from the council was here, and he said most refs want the game to go ahead so they get paid!!!

Yes i remember him saying that too. Although he added not all refs. I think either way we will always be affected my rock hard pitches but i think on balance i prefer harder pitches around this time than in the freezing cold winter.

Maybe but i am sure i am not the only one. You will find i never miss a game over the winter months though regardless of the conditions i just prefer this time of year.
